Dr. Shanti M. Pepper
Psychologist
TRAINER, CONSULTANT,Ā COACH
Hello and welcome!
Iām so glad you found your way here.
LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF.
My name is Shanti (and that handsome fella next to me is Pippin š¶).
Iām a psychologist dedicated to helping other therapists...
- evolve as trauma specialists,
- incorporate holistic approaches to healing,
- build confidence as a provider,
- transform clients' lives,
- stay in love with their careers.
Iām passionate about helping providers strategically evolve into effective trauma therapists.
As a young therapist, I felt overwhelmed by the severity of my clientsā symptoms, the number of available therapeutic interventions, mixed messages about the āonly ethical treatment for trauma,ā and my employerās expectations. I also noticed that many therapists had a strong bias toward a single therapy, and often judged those who used other forms of established therapies.
When you train with me, you wonāt hear divisive language elevating one therapy modality above another. Instead, you'll receive enthusiastic and impartial insights on several approaches, and informed guidance about the strengths and weaknesses of each.
My extensive training in nearly all established trauma treatmentsāand my actual use of themāenables me to offer this comprehensive experience. With my background as a yoga teacher, I also offer a holistic and integrative approach to trauma treatment.
Not only will you work with a trauma specialist dedicated to the art and science of healing, but youāll also have a colleague and consultant to guide you in the future!
Professional Bio
Iāve served as a clinical supervisor, consultant, and manager collaborating with psychologists, social workers, licensed professional counselors, occupational and recreational therapists, peer support specialists, nurses, psychiatrists, and physicians.
My background includes extensive training in all evidence-based treatments for PTSD, co-creating a holistic trauma center, developing statewide programming for military sexual trauma, training VA medical providers in whole-health interventions, serving as a VA trainer for primary care mental health, and even serving as a legal consultant and subject matter expert in PTSD.Ā Ā
Iām currently in full-time private practice, working closely with trauma survivors in individual and couples therapy, and I absolutely love my work!
I earned my Ph.D. in counseling psychology from The Pennsylvania State University after completing my pre-doctoral internship at the Vanderbilt-VA Consortium in Nashville, TN. I then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at The Ohio State University and additional specialized training as a PTSD fellow at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS).
I spent eight years at CAVHS in the Outpatient PTSD Clinic, served five years as the Military Sexual Trauma program coordinator, provided yoga for Veterans with PTSD, and co-developed whole-health training for VA providers. I later worked as a staff psychologist and supervisor in Primary Care-Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) and the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) at the Montana VA Healthcare System.
Additionally, I completed my yoga training at Circle Yoga Shala, earning my 200-hour certification in 2013 and 500-hour certification in 2018.
